School History
Betsy Ross Elementary School was built in 1924 and named after Betsy Ross, the woman credited with sewing the first American flag for George Washington in 1776. In 1960, Betsy Ross Elementary was one of the original thirty-two HISD Magnet Programs created to desegregate schools.
Betsy Ross Elementary is a STEM Magnet school serving approximately 270 students in Houston's Historic 5th Ward community. We are home of the cougars!
